Drop-Off and Pick-up Guidelines
Dear Parents,
We need everyone’s help to make the carpool drop-off and pick-up run safely and smoothly. Please review the following procedures that we have put in place to make sure things can run as orderly as possible.
Morning Drop-off:
There are two drop-off locations for parents to use each morning. One area is located directly south of the main entrance in the parking lot area. Please pull all the way into the parking lot and do not drop-off students until you have reached the curved area of the parking lot where the drop off zone is located. This will make it safer and faster for all students, especially during the busiest drop-off times immediately before school. The second area is located to the east of the school along 200 West. For the safety of all students, please enter the drop-off zone from the north by making a right turn into the drop-off area.
Please remember to pull as far forward as possible to allow for other drivers, be courteous, and respect staff instructions. Don’t drop students off in random spots along the roadside. We’re all here with the same goal of moving quickly and safely so we can have a great start to the morning.
Students who arrive before 8:15AM should go to the cafeteria. Breakfast begins serving at 8:00AM. Students who choose not to eat breakfast can gather in the gym where we also have adult supervision. A bell will ring at 8:15AM when students are able to go to classrooms or outside to the playground. This process helps us keep our students in areas that are supervised by adults as everyone is arriving in the morning and teachers are preparing for the day.
Afternoon Pick-up:
In the afternoon we have one pick-up area located on the curved part of the south parking lot near the front entrance of our school. Students will be brought out to the pick-up area by their teachers at the end of the day to join any siblings and meet their rides as quickly as possible. Please enter the carpool line from the north on 200 West and enter the parking lot by making a right hand turn only. When the line is at its longest, it will follow north along 200 West and we ask that students not meet their rides there for their safety and the safety of others. Our staff will be smiling and keeping everyone moving so that we can have everyone picked-up within a very short time.
Walking Carpool:
Many of our students walk safely to and from home every day. Doing so allows them to develop a sense of independence and accomplishment each day. Some parents who live too far from the school but also want their students to benefit from walking have chosen to participate in walking carpools where students meet their carpools at designated locations a few blocks from the school. We ask that any students walking use crosswalks, obey crossing guards, and stay on sidewalks. Whether walking, scooting, skating, or riding–stay safe and look out for one another on the roads home.
Common Issues:
We are all adults and have seen our share of bad actors during morning drop-offs or afternoon pick-ups. Hopefully, we can avoid issues if we remember:
- Slow down! 5 MPH in the parking lot and car pool areas please.
- Don’t park in the carpool line! There is a really long line behind you.
- Use the crosswalk! If you have to come into the building, park in the south lot and use the crosswalk while entering with your little ones. Hold their hands. Drivers are not going to see little kids running through the parking lot.
- Avoid left turns! If you can turn right, please do it so we can move along quickly.
- Don’t sneak in the back! The north parking lot is for employee parking only and should not be used for drop-off or pick-up. Please create a traffic hazard with our crosswalk on that side of the school.
Please share all of this information with anyone who might be picking up your children during the school year. Most of the problems with drop-off or pick-up happen when someone new is filling in and doesn’t know the drill. The more we can do to help spread the word the better it will go for everyone.
